Just a few minutes ago MI beat Kansas in the NCAA tournament. This qualified them for a position in the elite eight. They haven't been to the elite eight since 1994. Could this be a road to victory? I can almost taste the sweet sweet sweet victory.
 
True. It's true Ancient Greece turned everything into a competition. Singing, writing, running, eating, hair washing, burping, farting. You name it they did it. Because of their competitive nature we were given the honor of the mighty OLYMPICS! Every four years!
 
Written by John Irving. This is the miraculous story I'm reading for book blogs and learning blogs and annotations! It's really weird but its pretty great so far. The narrator Frank makes a lot of anecdotes to tell the story. This makes the story even more interesting!

Drama- literature, plays!
Many of the things we do, take part of, or eat have been derived or influenced by the Greeks! Thanks to them and their cultural template!
 
There are 8 steps to the Epic Hero Cycle.

The costumes were dramatic looking to make the feelings visible to the audience from far away. The feelings were usually very happy looking, mournful or sad or lustful looking. The features would be extravagant so that it wasn't questionable what the character was feeling. The characters were played by men of all ages. The men weren't professionals either.
 
The chorus is a group of men usually from 5-50 men singing some parts of the Greek plays. The Chorus offered a variety of background and summary information to help the audience follow the performance. The chorus expressed to the audience what the main characters could not say, such as their hidden fears or secrets. The chorus often provided other characters with the insight they needed.

Aphrodite - Goddess of love, romance, and beauty.
Apollo - Beautiful god of the sun, light, medicine, and music.
Ares - Dark god of war who loves Aphrodite.
Artemis - Independent goddess of the hunt, the forest, wildlife, childbirth, and the moon. Sister to Apollo.
Athena - Daughter of Zeus and goddess of wisdom, war, and crafts. Sometimes spelled "Athene"
Zeus - Supreme lord of gods, god of the sky, symbolized by the thunderbolt.
Dionysus- was the god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness and ecstasy in Greek mythology.
 
Strophe-A strophe is a poetic term originally referring to the first part of the ode in Ancient Greek tragedy!
Antistrophe-Antistrophe is the portion of an ode sung by the chorus in its returning movement from west to east, in response to the strophe!
The strophe and anitstrophe work together to add clarity to the situation in Oedipus Rex. The give more knowledge to the reader as well sometimes to the protagonist.
 
The Sphinx guarding the town of Thebes promised to kill herself if the riddle had been solved. Many attempted and in promise she killed them if they got the riddle wrong.
